Back to School with a clean shirt – Vanish Power Gel review

James went back to school today. “But James is only three!”, I hear you cry. Yes, indeed, and only just three years old, but nevertheless he’s been going to “school” for a while. His preschool is terrific, the teachers are really friendly, and he’s really enjoyed being there for the past year.

At the end of last term he had a bit of a wobble and started to cry when I dropped him off, but that little blip was no doubt due to our having holidays and he got out of the habit of going. James actually didn’t cry when I dropped him off on his last day of term – typical!

This morning when I dropped him off, he ran inside, shrugged his coat off, and went straight over to play with toys. He’d assured me in the car on the way there that he’d cry when I said goodbye. Huh! Not one little tear went anywhere near his eyes! I was forgotten the instant he saw the toys.

He wears a uniform at preschool, something that is optional, but I’m pleased about because he doesn’t come home very clean very often! Actually today he came home with green paint in his ear and I do not know what over his jeans.

Here’s a picture of his polo shirt before he went to school:

yellow polo shirt schoolYou will spot a few stains already on there, because although it’s the first day of term, I was very lazy (or hopeful?) and didn’t buy him new uniform for this term yet. We were sent a few Vanish products to test, and I thought what better to try them on but a piece of clothing that’s very regularly put through its paces.
yellow polo shirt school stains paintHe was absolutely shattered after school, so he got a bit of time to play with his new Duplo, then tea, and while he was in the bath I used the Vanish Power-Gel squeeze stick on the worst of the mess. Half of parenting is avoiding clothes stains! The other half? I’m not sure – maybe giving them the opportunity to have fun enough to dirty the clothes?!

baby washing machine vanish giveaway babyfoote I usually use the 30-degree quick wash on our clothes, and I thought to give the Vanish a ‘fair’ test, I should do as I normally do. Noah kept an eye on the clothes in the machine. He does a funny little bounce while the spin cycle starts, which I tried to video but failed.

Here’s a photo of his tshirt after the wash. Lovely.

What’s the biggest mess you’ve ever had to clean up?

Oh there’s been plenty with two dogs in the house as well as my son, too hideous to mention.

  2. September 4, 2015 / 1:23 am

My ‘better’ half decided to make an iced chocolate milkshake in the blender – so messing up the kitchen – then carrying it into the living room it was so cold the glass exploded. It was absolutely everywhere and, to add insult to injury, he dropped the glass of coke he was also carrying in shock…

    • September 4, 2015 / 7:58 am

Oh that sounds horrendous! I’ll bet that took some cleaning up 🙁

  4. September 4, 2015 / 9:46 am

This is a really horrible one so I will apologise in advance…my cat Billie had cat flu and had sick and poo at same time. He seemed to cover the whole house before I could scoop him into his carrier to take him to the vet!suffice to say he recovered but the cleaning involved was worst than anything I had ever seen.. A wee mini exorcist scene out of such a small cat!

    • September 4, 2015 / 10:12 am

Oh my goodness! Well, I did ask! Good to know Billie got better!

Definitely a toddler without a nappy running around with ‘tummy trouble’ before they could be stopped. Not pleasant!

I am a carer for my Grandma and the biggest mess you do not want to know about, I will say one of my twins did decide to empty his nappy and decorate every bar of his cot, wall that he could reach and his sister looked in shock when I went in, she just stood transfixed. How I felt and then had to start a long cleanup.

    • September 4, 2015 / 10:11 am

Wow – that sounds super stinky 🙁 and not very easy to clean up. No wonder she was transfixed!

This was a long time ago but is something i’ll never forget! when I moved into my first student house in Guildford the place was in a right state. In particular the kitchen floor was black & sticky (it was supposed to be white) – my friend & I spent a whole day scrubbing that floor. Disgusting!!

    • September 4, 2015 / 10:13 am

Ha, I had a similar experience when I was a student with a hair carpet in a flat mate’s room. Blurgh!

My girl never made really dreadful messes unless I have very selective memory. But my dog? Well. You know what puppies are like. And he did go through a dreadful chewy phase, the telephone extension thingy, the bathroom carpet, the spare room door frame. So bits of shredded stuff everywhere. So very glad he grew out of that. He was getting expensive!

The biggest mess I’ve had to clear up was after my husband he used an orbital sander on plaster joints in our bedroom – he didn’t shut any doors in the house (including the room he was working in!), consequently the whole house was covered in white dust. I discovered the mess when I came in from work, I walked up the hallway to the kitchen leaving a trail of my footprints in the dust that covered the entire ground floor which is tiled!

It’s a little embarrassing actually. I was at a friends house for drinks and dinner and she’d got me a bottle of red wine to drink specially as she only drinks white and I dont. The wine tasted a bit funny, but I didnt want to make a fuss so kept drinking it. Turns out the stuff was rancid, and I didnt quite make it to the toilet in time before I was sick. I cleared it all up of course, but it was mortifying.
