Boxing Day stroll

Before we had children, Rob and I used to walk down to Tynemouth for a few drinks on Boxing Day. Today we decided to relive that old tradition with a new twist – we drove there and only had one drink!

When we arrived, Rob accidentally nipped James’ chin in his coat zip, and James lost any enthusiasm for anything we had planned. In floods of tears he begged for a cuddle and refused to walk or go in the pushchair. Since I already was carrying Noah in the sling, we needed James to walk or be pushed, so our progress was really slow.

So we cut the stroll short and headed for the playground next to the boating lake.

Rob walked along the plank and James spent some time carefully copying. He soon got his confidence and ran back and forth a few times.

James was given a Duplo train for Christmas. He absolutely loves it and has carried it around all day, so of course it had to go on the walk with us. It was driven around the rainbow a few times before James was distracted by the real metro trains running past the park.

This is a good playground because it is under the flight route of Newcastle Airport so not only are there trains running by, there are regularly planes going overhead!

James spotted a black bird digging for worms in the grass. Of course that meant he chased towards it, and of course it flew away. It flew out of the playground and over towards a load of muddy puddles. We walked out and went over to see if we could see where it had gone and what it was doing. I do like it when James takes an interest in wildlife.

We watched the blackbird fly away, and as we turned to go, a family arrived at the playground. They were kind and let James take turns on their electric car.

Our walk home was freezing cold, and it felt only the decent thing to do was to call into the pub for a warming drink. Happy Christmas 🙂

It looks like you had a fabulous time reliving your old tradition of a boxing day walk. It’s a shame that it started off with tears but at least it got going and you all managed to have some fun in the park and even make some new friends! It’s so cute that James has carried around his duplo train, it’s great when presents just work isn’t it? Thanks for linking up with Country Kids.

Aww, bless him. I love the way they cart their toys around. We can’t go out the door without at least one toy in hand! Thanks for linking up and supporting the Outdoor Play Party this year. You are awesome 🙂

I’ve driven past this park many times but never actually been. Bless you LO for jamming is finger in his zip. Glad he got his confidence back soon though. Thanks for linking to #LoveNorthEast
